Numeral Reduplication and Clausal Syntax: Grammaticalized Distributivity in Medieval Iberia

چکیده

Abstract This study examines a little-known case of grammaticalized distributivity in the Romance branch, as found tenth to fifteenth century texts produced Iberian Peninsula. Analysis newly compiled, hand-annotated corpus demonstrates that, Old Ibero-Romance, reduplication an adnominal cardinal numeral on internal argument verb mandates distributive reading at sentential level. The construction is characterized ‘double-object’-like structure occurring only expressions dynamic and static possession. Whilst cross-categorial operation originating DP edge triggers pluralization event itself, applicative treatment clausal syntax not captures construction, but nature relation itself.

Implementing the Syntax of Japanese Numeral Classifiers

While the sortal constraints associated with Japanese numeral classifiers are wellstudied, less attention has been paid to the details of their syntax. We describe an analysis implemented within a broadcoverage HPSG that handles an intricate set of numeral classifier construction types and compositionally relates each to an appropriate semantic representation, using Minimal Recursion Semantics.

Syntax and Semantics of Korean Numeral Classifier Constructions

As given in the raising (2a) and causative (2b), the Num-CL sey myeng ‘three CL’ can have a different case marking from its antecedent, functioning as the matrix object. In a sense, it is linked to the original grammatical function of the raised object and the causee, respectively. Central issues in deep-parsing numeral classifier constructions thus concern how to generate such FQ constructions...

Weak Distributivity implying Distributivity

Let B be a complete Boolean algebra. We show that if λ is an infinite cardinal and B is weakly (λ, ω)-distributive, then B is (λ, 2)-distributive. Using a similar argument, we show that if κ is a weakly compact cardinal such that B is weakly (2, κ)distributive and B is (α, 2)-distributive for each α < κ, then B is (κ, 2)-distributive.

Reduplication in Persian Language and Literature

The Reduplications are made by repeating part of the base. The repeated part does not make sense and will never be used alone and is just popular in spoken language. In recent times, they have been used in some texts of poetry and prose, in particular, in stories written in vernacular. This research, with a historical approach, and with an analytical-explanatory method, examines the information...
